‘Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.’ Romans 12:2 NLT
The word transformed in this verse is metamorphosis—a complete change from the inside out. Not behavior modification. Not trying harder. A transformation that begins in the mind. Metamorphosis is actually the process of a caterpillar becoming a butterfly, encompassing not only shedding the old, but embracing the new.
I have needed this transformation in more areas than I can count. My mind, at one point, had been shaped by years of fear of rejection, fear of man, and fear of failure.
I can’t tell you exactly where it started, but I can tell you it affected every area of my life. It was exacerbated by the pattern of the world which tells us our value comes from performance, that aging means declining, and if we’re not progressing we’re failing.
Changing the way you think means believing something entirely different: you are already valuable, aging is not defeat, and transformation is a gift received, not a goal earned. Every morning when you choose to care for your body from a place of love rather than fear you are choosing not to conform. You are choosing to be transformed. You are choosing to do the butterfly thing.
Some days will feel easier than others.
Some days you will feel motivated.
Other days you will simply choose to be faithful.
Both matter.
Changing the way you think happens with every step you take. Every walk. Every workout. Every glass of water. Every moment spent caring for yourself. These small choices add up over time.
