A beautiful tablescape is one of my favorite holiday design setups, and it is really simple to achieve. Here’s a hint: start with the runner/napkin material. It is much easier to match the supporting items to the fabric, than matching the fabric to the accessories. It also allows you to create something completely unique. Follow these steps and change the theme to fit any occasion.

  • Pick out your theme. (this is a Coastal Cabin)

  • Go to Hobby Lobby and choose material for the runner and napkins.

  • Consider your china/dishware color and style (holiday cabin for ex).

  • Locate supporting items and accessories (candle holders, candles, napkin rings and centerpiece stems).

  • Sew the runner and napkins. These simple pieces create something custom made, and a lot of fun!

  • Place the runner on the table (I like to scrunch it, and place it on top of my existing jute table runner).

  • Add the centerpiece with life-like stems. It will likely need to be removed during the meal.

  • As you go, remember to combine rustic with elegant.

  • Add candles.

  • Add chargers, the china, wine glasses and silverware.

  • Place the napkin rings/napkins on the dinner or salad plates.

  • This year I layered wood ornament pieces with words like “joy,” and “noel” (you can also put names on them).

  • Light the candles and you are ready for a beautiful holiday dinner that will dazzle.

This year the material we decided to use was perfect for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. The whole process takes only a few hours and can remain in place to complement holiday decor throughout the entire season.
