Have you ever felt limited by someone else’s ideas, or how someone else might feel things need to be done? You can actually limit yourself without realizing it. You may not actually say to yourself, “Well, that’s just the way I’ve always done things.” Mostly because you can feel how limiting and narrow that sounds when you say it outloud. I had several instances of this exact thing happen recently.

First, we had a moment when we decided to direct separate funds into our real estate company. As soon as I thought about creating a new revenue stream, the Lord gave me an idea for a side hustle. No sooner had I stepped toward making that vision a reality, then it began to grow. Now this does not mean every idea you have will immediately take off, but it does mean, every idea you ignore will fail. Ask the Lord for ideas, then remove the limits you may have unintentionally put on yourself.

Second, we have developed a system for finding, purchasing, renovating and launching our properties. We have found, especially in renovating, to duplicate the things that work well. One of those things was our bathroom reno process, which involved tearing out the old, dated tile and replacing it with updated, neutral tile. I was perfectly fine with this process, and I liked knowing what to expect. My son Levi, began to research and experiment with a new micro cement process claiming to save time, money and brain cells. I didn’t realize I had limited my thinking to doing things one particular way. I felt like our process was efficient and streamlined the way we were doing it—and it was. Levi thought there could be a better way and he found it! Micro cementing means we don’t have to tear out the old tile, we can apply the mixture right on top. The time, clean up, expense and process are all game changers!

Being open to something new is a lot like giving God a new wineskin. You are preparing your heart to receive something you have never seen, heard or done before. God asks for a new wineskin because He knows our old way of thinking will implode when new ideas challenge what we are comfortable with. Old wineskins need to be replaced regularly, not just once in your lifetime. You are meant to have new, fresh ideas coming into your life on a consistent basis. Open yourself up to something new. Ask the Lord for new ideas and watch what happens when you take the limits off.
